After a year of intensive development, Openet has officially released its OpenDesk cloud desktop service to Perth businesses.

Hosted locally in Perth the OpenDesk service provides full Windows desktops in a private cloud that can be securely accessed from almost any Internet-connected PC, tablet or phone.

The OpenDesk service provides small and medium businesses with an alternative to buying computer hardware, saving precious capital for investment in income-generating assets.

When asked why Openet had developed the OpenDesk service, Openet's Managing Director, Andrew Monteiro said:

“Openet has been deploying virtual desktop solutions to clients for about five years but only our larger clients were able to make the capital investment necessary to gain the security, convenience, efficiency and flexibility offered by this technology. We recognised that many of our smaller clients had the same needs and would greatly benefit from desktop virtualisation but they simply couldn't afford the necessary infrastructure.

At first, we investigated a number of desktop as a service offering from large vendors such as Amazon but they were a poor fit. Their services did not offer simple integration of desktop and server workloads in a single ecosystem, they could not support graphics-intensive applications and they had complicated opaque cost structures.

Eventually, we concluded that we could leverage our existing experience to build a multi-tenant service that met our clients' requirements at an affordable price point and the OpenDesk service was born.”

The OpenDesk service is provided under a simple per desktop per month fee structure and includes full end-user support.
