Barrick Gold is the worlds largest gold producer. Openet provides a range of ICT consultancy services to Barrick including the design and management of their wide area network (WAN) in the Australia Pacific region.

In December 2005, Barrick Gold acquired Placer Dome with the vision of becoming the best gold mining company in the world. To take advantage of the substantial synergies between the two companies extensive work was undertaken at all levels to integrate business processes. The successful integration of information and communication technology infrastructure and processes was identified as an important part of the amalgamation.

Openet has established a partnership agreement with Riverbed to deliver industry-leading WAN optimisation technologies. Riverbed's range of Steelhead appliances can reduce bandwidth utilisation by 60% to 95% and eliminate transport and application protocol inefficiencies to improve application performance over wide area network links.

OM Manganese operates a manganese mine approximately 100km north of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. To meet the mine's need for additional telephony services, Openet has implemented an IP telephony solution using the Asterisk open source PBX.
