In October 2013, Chalice Gold Mines announced the proposed aquisition of Canadian based Coventry Resources. Openet was engaged by Chalice to assist with planning for integration of Coventry's IT systems with its own. Upon subsequent completion of the aquisition, Openet was tasked with integrating the company's IT systems.
To address the challenges of a distributed workforce and the need to process the typically large data sets associated with mining exploration, Openet recommended that Chalice move to a private cloud solution using a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Openet's VDI solution for Chalice included optimisations to enable fast 3D graphics processing, allowing staff to run graphics intensive applications at traditional desktop speeds while gaining the benefits of reduced TCO, flexible access and the ability to centrally manage exploration data.
Deployment of the VDI solution was completed in April giving Chalice's staff in both Canada and Australia the same flexible access to virtual desktops.
